About Us

Sona Sarovar Trust was registered on 21st March 2007 under The Charitable Trust Act with an aim to support the underprivileged sector of our society. The journey began with Miss Ranjana Kamble, a 22-year-old girl incapacitated by polio, daughter of a part-time maid. She was given treatment at a hospital and soon thereafter she not only could stand, but also started to walk comfortably with the help of crutches and calipers. The story with her did not end there, Sona Sarovar Trust also gave her a sewing machine to earn and contribute to her family’s income. And soon Ms Ranjana started to live a dignified and happy life. The journey continued with many projects on rural rehabilitation that were undertaken. Projects on water, sanitation, solar energy, child education, organic farming as well as income generation activities were zealously undertaken. In the process, they realized that the main cause of the problem was illiteracy. In the underprivileged segment, parents were illiterate and extremely poor to send their children to public school or for tuitions. The result was children dropping out of school. Parents would also encourage their children to earn rather than learn so the trust started working on education and adopted nearby slums.

What began with just a bowl of water, is now a full fledged initiative to aid the underprivileged.
